In fact, PowerPoint is stand alone in the world of presentation. You can animate your sideshow, insert videos, display live webpages in your presentation with PowerPoint. But this powerful tool can be used for creating a simple quiz contest.
Even you can make your quiz contest more attractive adding spicy layouts, sounds etc. Here is how you can create a complete quiz contest like KBC with PowerPoint.
The whole procedure has been describe here by dividing in parts. The following parts are involved:
1. Planning 2. Creating slides 3. Linking 4. Playing the Quiz Contest.

 

Planning

This is the initial and most important part of creating and organizing the Quiz Contest. You should have a vast idea on how the contest will proceed. In the contest, there will be a welcome screen where the user can choose whether to participate in the contest or not. After getting involved into the contest, he will get a slide which contains the question and the options for answer. You can put any number of alternatives for the answer. For instance, I’ve considered three options here. So if the contestant clicks the write answer, he will be awarded the next slide of question and so on. If he clicks on a wrong answer, he will out of the contest; though he can choose to replay the contest. Once the contestant choose the correct answer at the last question slide, he will be taken to the congratulation slide. Here is a rough flowchart of organizing the Quiz Contest in PowerPoint.

Creating the Slides

Open PowerPoint and design the welcome slide. Here the welcome slide contains two option buttons: Start and Quit. You can create the buttons by clicking on Insert > Shapes from the ribbon.


Create your question slides. For convenience of use, create one slide and prepare the template first; insert the question then answer buttons (you can put the number of answers as your wish).


  • Copy the slide to create more question slides as many as you like – just change the question and answers there. Note: You can also configure the layout for your slides from Slide Master. Learn more on that from here.
  • Create the Error slide which will be shown if the participant choose the wrong answer. Keep there two options for him: 1. Play Again 2. Quit.
  • Create another slide, the congratulation slide to show if the participant complete all the question stage with write answer. Here I suggest to put the Quite option in the Congratulation slide.
Lastly, create a Thank you slide which will be shown at the end of the contest.

Linking Slides

As the aforementioned flowchart, you have to link the slide wisely. For instance, the participant will start from the Welcome slide and if he select the Start button, he will be taken to the first question slide containing multiple number of answers. So you have to link the button for the correct answer in such a way that if he clicks it, he will be taken to the next question. Otherwise the Error slide appears containing an option to replay the contest from the Error slide. And so on.
Link the correct answer button in the last question slide with the Congratulation slide. That’s all to setup a quiz contest though you can customize it as you think.

How to link a button in PowerPoint

You can link any button in your slide by right-clicking on the button, then choose Hyperlink.
The Insert Hyperlink popup window appears. Click on the Place in This Document button from the left side.


Select the slide or page that you want to link with the button and click on OK.
While you are ready with all your slides and linking them with appropriate buttons, you can start the quiz contest as a slideshow

How to play the Quiz Contest

Firstly, select all your slides except the Welcome slide from the slide navigation bar in PowerPoint. Head to the Slide Show tab from the ribbon and select Hide Slide.
Save the document as PowerPoint show from Office button.
Once you save the slideshow as PowerPoint Show, you can play that quiz contest any time by clicking on the file you just created.
